Gift Horse in the Mouth

I think I will start to refer to x-mas as giftmas. I don't know where I first heard/seen it, but it made sense.

When I speak of gift giving and the holidays, or any holiday for that matter, to my eleven year old, I refer to it as an event we are [by choice] participating in.

I am curious as to how do other atheist families deal with this time period, so I posted same query in atheist_parents

Since I have some atheist friends, I thought I would post here as well.
Being atheist, do you do the tree thing? Gift giving thing?
