Tasty Sweet Things

Tasty sweet things I made this week:
Ginger Vanilla Crème Brulee with Mango
Watermelon Sorbet
Root Beer Sorbet

The Ginger Vanilla Crème Brulee with Mango came out excellently. Each individual cup had bits of diced Mango. The top is hardened caramelized sugar that is done with a blow torch. Love that! As we have a grapefruit tree, sometimes, I will carmelize a half grapefruit with the blow torch-Yum. Next time I will be trying a Honey Vanilla Rice Crème Brulee, which I know my honey will love.

The Watermelon Sorbet had a light, fresh flavor to it, though it came out too hard. Not enough sugar. I was experimenting with using less sugar, just because, well, you know, it's sugar! But while you can get away with less sugar in baked goods, it is harder in sorbet. Will make it again this week.

Same problem with Root Beer Sorbet. DJ wanted to try this flavor, so he took the lead. I ordered some root beer extract to use for his birthday cake next month, which will be Root Beer Cake with Root Beer Icing and will probably make Root Beer Ice Cream to go with it all. We RARELY drink soda and when DJ does, it is a treat. He is not allowed to have Coke or Pepsi, so that leaves caffeine free Root Beer, which has become his favorite flavor. The extract worked well in the sorbet for flavor, just needs more sugar. Will try that again this week.

Will also be making some homemade granola bars. [no sugar] We'll see how those come out.

Earlier this week DJ says:
"I want to try this: cook some bacon and then cook some eggs in the same pan.
That must be good."

Yup.
